Library

The college library was established in the year 1949. It was operating in the main academic building in the beginning but was moved to independent premises during 1980. As a major source of information provider, it occupies a total area of 1009.212Sq.mts. At present the library has in its stock 62,162 volumes. Our college library aims at developing comprehensive collection of resources in all branches of knowledge – Social science, Science and technology, Commerce and Management, Languages etc. giving vital support to teaching and learning. New titles are added from time to time in order to ensure that readers are provided with updated study materials. Reference books include encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, books on competitive exams etc. Library subscribes to 43 periodicals, 42 subject journals and several newspapers. Internet facilitation centre as a learning centre is the centre, leading to excellence & E-learning.
The library includes well maintained collection of books for post graduate courses offered in the college. The library has WI-FI connectivity which offers the reader free internet service to browse E-resources. More than 6000+ e- journals and 31,35000+ e-books can be accessed under N-LIST digital library facility of INFLIBNET Service. The library took the initiative to identify rare collections including several Literature books, Hindi books, Dictionaries and books on Kodagu. Books are maintained in the rare book Collections section and are displayed for the benefit of staff and students. Library has a New arrival section where newly arrived books on different subjects are displayed

LIBRARY RULES

General Rules

1.Students shall observe absolute silence and maintain right decorum in the library.
2.They shall also keep cleanliness and order.
3.Books and News papers shall not be defaced, torn or mutilated.
4. Students shall be courteous with the library staff.
5. Students shall not take their bags, luggage or any other things to reading room, reference section or borrower’s section. All belongings should be kept in the property counter.
6. While borrowing books/newspapers/magazines for reference or reading purpose students shall produce identity cards to the staff concerned, if asked to do so.
7. If the library service is found to be inadequate, it may be brought to the notice of the librarian in written form and a copy of the same may also be submitted to the Principal.

Rules regarding borrowing books

1. Library service is available to the students from 9.30 am to 5.00pm on all the working days except on Saturday, on which day library will remain open up to 1.30pm.
2. Books can be borrowed on all weekdays except on Saturday.
3. Each student will be given two borrower’s cards, one book can be borrowed against each card. Borrower’s card and Identity card shall be produced at the time of borrowing.
4. In case a student loses borrower’s card, he/she shall inform the librarian about the same in written form. New borrower’s card will be issued on payment of Rs.5/-.
5. A student can keep a book borrowed, for a period of ten days from the date of borrowing or up to a period notified by the librarian. Those who do not return the borrowed books within the due date shall have to pay penalty at the rate of 50 paise per day up to the date of return. Defaulting students will be barred from availing library facilities until penalties are paid and the receipts of payments are produced.
6. Books borrowed before midterm holidays shall be returned within first three days after college re-opens.
7. Borrowed books shall not be lent to others. It is the responsibility of the borrower to ensure that books are returned in good condition. Nothing should be written or marked on pages of books nor they shall be torn or defaced. At the time of borrowing, students shall check the books for any damages and in case of any deficiency observed, it may be brought to the notice of the library staff.
8. If books are returned in bad condition or in cases of loss of books, the borrower shall have to compensate the loss. Stipulated penalty shall have to be paid for the books damaged. In case of loss of a book, six times the cost of a book and Rs.10/- as maintenance charge shall have to be paid. In case the lost book is a part of volumes/series, entire volume shall have to be replaced.
9. Book catalogs have been maintained in order to give quick information about the books.
10. Books for reference can be obtained by producing identity cards and such books shall not be taken out of the library.
11. Students shall not take news papers or magazines out of the library. Penalty of Rs.10/-would be imposed for breaking this rule.

Book Bank

1. Book bank facility is intended for students who are meritorious but economically poor.
2. A student desiring to avail book bank facility shall submit an application in prescribed form at the beginning of the academic year.
3. A committee constituted by the Principal would finalize the list of beneficiaries of Book bank.
4. Books borrowed from a Book bank can be used till the end of the academic year or till the date as notified by the Principal or the Librarian.
5. SC/ST Book bank caters to the students belonging to SC/ST communities and the UGC Book bank facility is extended to meritorious students in general.
