DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM

The Department of Journalism at FMKMC College is one of the most vibrant academic centres of media education in Kodagu with promoting ethical journalism among students’ and developing communication and writing skills, effective leadership, knowledge and attitude for different media platforms like Print, Electronic and New Media.
Since its inception in 2006, the department has always strived to optimize the theoretical rigour and practical exposure of its students, through a constantly evolving curriculum activities and workshops. With an objective to facilitate a multi-faceted profile for the student and deal with an ever-changing media context, under the UG programme, the department offers various subjects as part of its syllabus which includes; Introduction to Mass Communication, Evolution of Mass Media, Reporting, Editing, Photography, Feature Writing, Advertising, Public Relations, Media Laws and Rights.
The programme empowers students with plentiful opportunities and support to tackle communication issues in real-life as well in profession.
Fiddle with an innovative and contemporary curriculum, the department has been conducting series of lectures in association with Press Club of Madikeri, wherein experienced Journalists from different media sector shares practical experience. Besides, Internship programs at different mass media are offered and also students are encouraged in making documentaries, short films and photography.
